Won't be in either Scott or Gibbons. The Van Dam catalogue will list it, though. |

stampvirgin, nice looking stamp. I've never seen one like this before. I have a 1987 Van Dam catalogue and your stamp looks like #FSC11 with a used value of $75. |

Yes, depending on what is going on with it at the top, it could have a pretty nice CV. (Looks a little close to the perfs at the top.) Van Dam's website has one with pretty nice centering on their website for $115 Canadian. Asking price, of course...it hasn't sold yet.
The punches are the cancel method, as you no doubt guessed. |

it is close at the top. here is the rub, it came, free, in a packet of us revs I ordered.
here is the other rub, it was torn in half just below STAMP and 1 under the picture. So I get nice looking space filler. |

If it wasn't for the tear, this would list as very fine condition, other then the tear the stamp is perfect.

So what would a professional repair cost on a stamp like this. Not that I would consider it on this particular one but ideally a VF extra high value with no other faults would it be a worthwhile venture. To answer the usage of these law stamps ( this particular one being a federal supreme court issue) The following is copied from BNAPS revenue page. "Law stamps were typically, but not exclusively, used for the payment of fees and/or taxes imposed on documents associated with civil judicial proceedings. The funds from these stamps were often designated for the support of the court system.
There were several exceptions to the usual purpose of law stamps. One such exception occurred in Quebec where for a period of time law stamps were required on documents recorded at registry offices in addition to registration stamps. Another exception occurred in Ontario where law stamps were used to pay the fee for searches in land titles offices. In other provinces, such as Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia, separate search-fee stamps or tickets were used."

nitro... not worth the time and effort for a stamp with a CV of 100+.
Since I reattached it with hinges, you can't see the tear from the front. I will keep it that way.
