Does anyone know about a color variety for Scott #355 1962 5 cent Australia. One of these is BLUE and the other either Blue-Gray or Blue-Green (certainly not described by my eyes but someone not colorblind). I saw nothing in my 1991 Scott catalog. As always - thanks - Jeff

I don't see any color variety listed in the VST catalog.

Offhand, from the pic, I would say the bottom stamp is toned, which probably means the blue color faded or color changeling.

Our Australian family members are more knowledgeable about any color varieties. Catalogs don't list everything. I defer to their replies...

The stamp has been soaked in water with another
stamp on a piece of red envelope.

Red envelopes should broadcast a red warning for any soaker.

I think I may actually send these two to you (with return envelope and postage) to have a look at, if it's not a bother. Just very curious. --------------- and thanks for your bids - jeff

This was a single print run commemorative with only 30 million issued - there are no known colour varieties to my knowledge.

Being that the paper is also a different colour, the stamp appears to have been affected in some manner - possibly as Rod has described, or from the envelope it was attached to. There are a number of things that could explain a stamp toning like this.

in my experience Rod is usually on or very near the mark and I don't doubt here either, but I want another set of eyes first hand just for grins.
