This month's "Stamp News Australasia" has a really interesting article by Chris Dehaer on page 30.

Australians will remember Saturday 7th February 2009 ~ Black Saturday~ when the Victorian fires roared through townships claiming life after life. The eventual toll was 173. Among the dead were some of Gary Brown's family. Gary was the president of the Australian Philatelic Federation at the time.

APF has set up a fund in their memory & produced a souvenir stamp sheet. It is hoped the trust will finance a reading book about Australia's geography & history through stamp issues. The sheet will be released at the Sydney stamp show on March 31st. I think this is probably a first all round & a brilliant way to remember an Australian Philatelist's family.

Chris' web site should allow you to view the sheet: http://stamps.chrisdehaer.com.au
Good on them! KGV

Edit/Thanks so much luvthecommonwealth for catching that so fast. I misread the article & that was a bad mistake to make!

Thanks for posting this, it's a good cause.

Just a correction though: Gary Brown is still alive...it was his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren that sadly died. He posted on StampBoards recently.
