I have LOTS of unused stamps that I had to soak to get them apart.
Is there a way to personally re-gum a stamp?

kingfish23, why would you want to re-gum an unused stamp? If you want to use it for postage, use a glue stick and affix it to the envelope. If you intend to keep the stamp for your collection, leave it as it is.

Glue . . .

Re-gumming a stamp (for aesthetic purposes) is an art.

This brought to mind another question. I have some ungummed stamps I would like to use for postage. If I use a glue stick will the recipients be able to soak them off?

Butterfly, I don't know if all manufacturers use the same formula but I checked two different glue sticks manufacturers and they are supposed to be water soluble.

Good point. I was going to use them as postage to other collectors.
Would it matter if some of the ink on the face of the stamp is missing?
It came off while separating the sheets!

There are regumming places around,
they once advertised in Stamp Magazines.
It is heavily frowned upon, and considered fraud.
You won't fool anyone with a regummed stamp.
But then again it's your stamps and your money :)

Tasmania:
Ceremuga Certificate.
Regummed ans Manuscript cancels chemically removed.

Now how would you feel owning it?
knowing it's not really what it is,
just a contrivance? a fraud, a forgery.
OK if you had it as a forgery example,
anything else...well...

Glue sticks come in several flavors, including permanent glue sticks.

You want to get the ones that are acid-free and water soluble (i.e., not permanent). They will usually say pretty clearly on the glue stick and the packaging.

I do not recommend regumming stamps to put into your collection. It is not worth the authenticity questions it raises for all the other stamps in your collection when it comes time to sell.

Certainly not you but someone at a later date is going to own that stamp with all its ramifications. Not worth the headache.

In Canada (and, no doubt a lot of other countries) it is illegal to re-use stamps that have been through the mail.

That includes canceled or uncanceled.

The trick is for Canada Post to prove you have intentionally re-used a stamp.

Let your conscience be your guide when re-gumming, using a glue-stick or just plain re-using stamps in whatever country you live.

I've used glue sticks to affix labels for my homemade wine. They soak off quite easily.
