Gee I was a bit disappointed to read in "Money in Stamps" by James a Mackay where he goes into detail why a dealer can not be a collector accumulator...in short that leaves me out....the dealer must sell while an item is hot..he can not afford to speculate....

I admit to be a collector / accumulator, never a collector / hoarder. I have given away a good many to help friends fill gaps and to help kids get started. This helps the accumulator side, but I'm guilty as charged.

Rod Perry is one of the few collectors who trade successfully. Juzwin doesn't collect, Shields doesn't collect, Glen Sephens doesn't collect.

If your in it for the money you sell what you can when you can. Right now every dealer on the planet is scrambling for as much china material as they can get as it is the hottest highest selling country. Prices are realizing 3-5x catalog on even mediocre stuff and ironically its not the older material its the 50's 60's 70's and 80's that I bet we've all given away at some point.
I still think if I was on the other side of that counter I'd have to be plucking some gems for my retirement collection.

At times I see one of my stamps or covers and think perhaps someone on the forum would like it ...so I offer it for sale or auction for fun..but the VAST majority of stuff just sits there !!

...and so it should,
"sitting there" is retention, and whilst it may seem
rather innocuous to you, it will eventually pass on when
it's your turn to return to dust.
I keep everything, all the boring label covers,
PO box indicia, anything to do with Postage.
AusPost advertising material, anything, I just throw it in a box.

Someday, somewhere, somebody will get a kick out of it.
I am an inveterate hoarder, and why not?
It's just stamps, they don't take up much room,
It's not like one is collecting WW2 army tanks.

Good on you....look after your "sitting there" stuff.
