Yeah, got a little off my meds and won some auctions. I thought I was going to reduce, not accummulate . Here are 2 censored covers from GB during WWII , opened to make sure nothing secret wise was leaving the country.
Here's another from Britain, 1940. Was doing a listing for ebay, so why not show it here? Since it isn't back stamped in Canada, I wonder if it ever got there. Is that a YMCA logo under the sticker? Is the YMCA an international organization?
During the World Wars, it was not uncommon to find censored covers bearing a cachet of the YMCA and also the YWCA. This organization was not the only one to do so either.
The Knights of Columbus also had covers with their insignia on them as well. The reason for this is because these organizations supplied military service personnel writing material and envelopes that could be used to send back home to their loved ones overseas.
Censored covers are a study all on their own and much too vast to explain here, but this short posting should give you an idea what there is out there to look for.
