Visiting a friend this weekend, she hands me a plastic shopping bag full of old envelopes. Nothing valuable, but certainly interesting postal history.
Here's an E17 special delivery with a C32 airmail, postmarked 1947.

Just for fun, here's a couple more.
A 1914-16 postal card UX27 tied with a 1c prexxie.

And two late 1940s early '50s Canadian air mail postal stationary

Oh, yes, there was also a book of 1943 US war ration stamps.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go feed my herd of gloats.

Very funny!

You have a very kind and considerate friend there.

I just adore the Airmail Livery on the border of
the airmails, beautiful stuff.

"204 1/2 East Maple Street"!

Crikey, that's unusual,
never seen a fraction in an address before.

Rod, I have seen the ˝ (half) number in an address to designate a basement apartment in a house.

I thought maybe a US style for a duplex building.

There is an old semi detached house in downtown Toronto, number 666. Needless to say it received a lot of undesirable attention from the lunatic fringe (you know, graffiti, dead bats etc.) After much petitioning from the owner, the city finally changed the number to 664 1/2.
Guess there's something to be said for doing things in half measures.

Lovely covers! A great gift. I won a lot of stamps on ebay and the seller emailed me to say many of the stamps were still on the envelopes, would I like them cut off? I politely (and very quickly) replied No, thankyou, I was happy to have the envelopes too. Amounted to about 200 worldwide covers! Mostly 1960s. Again, nothing of huge historical value, but I love them anyway!
