Wow those are great stamps! Love the documetaries. I don't have any of those but some that have the word "documentary" on them. I will have to upload them and share. Super great, loved looking at them!

Hey, was sorting some kiloware and noticed I had a couple of these.

Here is what I have:

1. A single 3 cent
2. On paper pair of 50 cent
3. On paper strip of 3 1 dollar + a separate 1 dollar.

I don't collect these but was curious to its value in case I want to exchange or sell.

If you need a pic from my sloppy camera phone let me know.

I found some listings on ebay.

For the 1 dollar Scott J77

Mint single listed at BIN price of $ 32.00
Used single listed at BIN price of $ 25.00

I am guessing both are inflated.

Also found a Mint Booklet Pane of 9 listed at $ 260 BIN.

I tried typing in the search function J77 in the Mystic Online Catalog but it brings up nothing, however I did find the Postage Due set minus the 1 Dollar denomination.

Is there more value to a Postage Due if it has been used? Or does this follow the same principle as other stamps? i.e. mint has more value.

The short answer is simply No. If it's on cover then possibly depending which one it is. It pretty much follows regular postage stamp guidelines.

Mystic Stamps doesn't really deal in the revenues. They do have the more common B.O.B. items (Airmail, special handling, Special Delivery, Parcel Post Registration stamps and maybe the officials?)

I looked it up on Wiki and found that Lyman Judson Gage was Secretary of the Treasury during the McKinley and T. Roosevelt Administrations from 1897-1902.

In reading further into his biography, I found it interesting that he was "one of the 30 founding members of the Simplified Spelling Board". Now I asked myself, what in the world was that organization (I never heard of it before) and so I came across the attached link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simpli...elling_Board

... What a worse mess the US would have been in had this ever been adopted!

Just goes to show the interesting things you find when researching stamps.

So, lets review this for just a moment:

*~ $15,000 (1906 dollars – over $350,000 in 2010 dollars per year for five years to get the organization off the ground.

That's $1,750,000.00 in total (from just 1 man)

*~ There were 30 members of the Board consisted of authors, professors and dictionary editors,

To sit around and discuss words-
"to reform the spelling of the English language, making it simpler and easier to learn, and eliminating many of what were considered to be its inconsistencies."

It truly amazes me what the Government (and wealthy individuals such as Andrew Carnegie) will and wont spend money on!? In my opinion this is both idiotic and ridiculous!

True. If anything it has fragmented the language and complicated things such as spellcheckers which now need to check for US english and also the correct English spelling

<-- Word Nerd, Spelling Stickler, Punctuation Protector.

Languages (and spelling) evolve on their own through usage. They don't need help.

That said, I shudder to think of what the Internet has already done to the English language.
