This set of maxicards is now a favorite.
Issued April 4th 2011.

I worked in this sort of country for 3-4 years.

Something I thought I would never see again is the desert in full growth.

Lots of birds come to the coast when it is dry but when it is wet they stay inland at their favorite places.

The red stain in the water is from the desert. The blue water has come from the top of Australia right down to the bottom of the Simpson Desert. The blueness is because of the large salt content.

Hope you enjoy this as much as us. KGV and Family.

Lovely scans John.
Yep, nice to see middle Australia green!

Mind you, you can keep your salt pans,
I was out riding the other day, solo,
and thought I'd go for a walk on one of our
salt pans just out of town.

I slipped down the embankment and ran about
5 steps onto the salt, and promptly sank 2 feet into
the most digusting smelling foul rotting sludge you could imagine.
I expected the salt to be hard.

To the east of Lake Eyre. Home Sweet Home for a while. Just before we went into the Simpson Desert proper.

This image was taken in 1983 just before the last time general rain fell over the desert country mentioned. The clouds you see is the beginning of that rain and it sure did rain. Everything got bogged and there were no planes in or out of the oil rig for about 4 weeks.

The images could be better but it is the best I can do with our camera.
Having a very good relationship with my local PO means I now get the posters for new stamp releases after the next new ones come in. So I am now collecting these beautiful posters. They come every 3 months, 2 or 3 at a time. This is a very special turn in stamp collecting for me.
