I recently aquired an old stamp album with several tousand stamps in it. Most of them I can identify. There is one I just cannot figure out. If anyone can help that would be great.

This is about the best I can come up with. It is pretty much just like that. No numbers or words.

Hi and welcome,

I don't think it is a postage stamp. Check the front page of your album and see when it was published. Many of the older albums, such as a Scott's International stamp album dated 1912 that I have on the shelf, had a place for a Picture stamp of the country founder, king, president, etc. near the NAME of the country and sometimes a flag stamp also. However, these were sold separately and many collector's didn't buy these accessories. Ever once in a while I come across one in an auction. Since the photo may differ, one would just have to be lucky or very historic to recognize the picture. My best thoughts on it.

By the way check the Membership contest in the contest portion of the forum as you being a new member, you received 1 point, and for the first significant posting afterwards, you received a 2nd point. If you go and do an introductory posting in the WELCOME thread at the top, you can get a third point. That's the end of the easy points . Read the rules to see how you can get more. One way is like Triggersmob who got another point for being the first to welcome you to the forum. Everyone keeps tract of their own points until the end of the contest coming soon! I will adding another prize to the total....maybe some Aussie items!

This was in the U.S. part of the Scott international album hinged off to the side of page 1. It looks like it is from the cival war era but I am only guessing. I knew when I found it that it was going to be work trying to find any information on it.

I also want to say that the amout of information on this site is incredible. I stumbled in here and I am very glad I did. I will be reading and posting often.

Well, one never knows what you might find in an album. But there should be some alphabetical info, and even if it is a an alphabet outside of your foreign language ability, your eye would recognize it different from a decoration; the same for a numerical value. But there are some great stamp detectives on this forum, but most are old and have to sleep a lot There is a lot to learn here, and they treat newcomers very well.

It may be perforated, and looks as if it could be from the U.S., but has absolutely nothing to indicate that it is a postage stamp, not even a value. It looks like a portrait turned into a "stamp."

I agree--more of "a portrait turned into a stamp"--maybe the earliest stamps.com
ever! ha

Hello sharksfan.....welcome to the club.

I agree with the everyone that it is not a stamp.....aside from that I have no clue, it doesn't even remind me of anything I've ever see, accept maybe Jim's idea about it being a portrait of a ruler.

Also, it appears to be on photographic paper. Can you tell? Could be sepia toned and/or fading.

It doesn't look to me like it is on photographic paper. It does look like it is faded some.
