Modern's post in the "For Sale" forum got me to thinking.

Are there any members who will admit to having a tattoo of a stamp or stamp related item?

My uncle spent 20 years in the navy. Went in after Pearl Harbor at 17. Always fascinating to the kids to see those hula girls and other stuff tattooed on his arms when he got back for a visit. Always thought tattoos and sailors went together, at least back then. You might have some swabbie. Are any of them stamps, or won't you admit it?

I've got one, but it's not stamp related.

I had a salty old Chief back in the "old" navy that had a propeller on each cheek - and I'm not talking about his face! He was proud of them and when he had had a little too much to drink he was prone to show them off.

P.S. The one tattoo I do have I got about three years ago after I had been retired for over ten years. My wife and I both got one on the same night!

I have no tattoos (nor any desire for them) but for those so inclined, check out this link of an Inverted Jenny design:

I have a coin related tat :) but only my wife can see it *grin* Now it does make the docs laugh when I get a check up. Nothing like honest abe looking back at you from the exam table. I've been a specialized cent collector for the past fifteen years now. Anything from large to small and have spent a great deal of money time and effort to amass my horde of copper plugs so when asked what I wanted wanted one crazy night I said a small cent. Needless to say Abe and I have been joined at the hip since ;P

There are currently 4,200 HIV/AIDS cases on Bali, Sutedja said.

Australian health authorities on Friday said a patient diagnosed with HIV probably contracted the virus while being tattooed on the island. They did not reveal any details of the individual concerned.

I wouldn't be so dire or drastic about it. Getting a tattoo is very safe and sound when done in proper establishments. Now if your jumping into the back of a crack house and pounding back booze and letting a hooker give you some ink with a used hypodermic then you may have some problems. In the US though most if not all counties/parishes/cities/towns ect have rules and health codes for these places. Always make sure your artist pulls out fresh wells, needles, gloves and so on. Don't be afraid to ask questions or be picky with the artist. This is my opinion, but I think you are more likely to catch something getting a manicure in the states versus getting a tattoo.

Now in other countries it's a toss up. I have seen very clean and sanitized locations in both Europe and Asia and I have also seen some pretty raunchy ones as well.
