Have just seen this USA mega factory shed where the UPS people sort the air mail for loading straight into 39 Jumbo Jets that only carry mail.

Most of the sorting was done by bar codes while the item was on a conveyor belt. There was so many conveyor belts everywhere and so few people around.

Never saw a mailing stamp for 30mins of looking at this mega mail sorting factory in operation.

It was so large and so few people you could park a truck under the exit area of a conveyor belt and then go straight to ebay. No wonder mail goes missing.

The large odd shaped items conveyor belt disappeared into the darkness.

An amazing place. Nice to see how they sort our mail.

Interesting. KGV.

Its hard to fathom the volume of mail that goes through the system every day until you see it in action!

There are a lot of good videos on youtube about mail sorting including:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xzHw2b0Nis (USPS - 584 million pieces a day)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WumR2qpqP8 (Australia Post - 2 million pieces a day)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BVHPmGIxBQ (Royal Mail - 84 million pieces a day)

Certainly a fun way to kill some time!
