Hi all

Today I got a rather crummy postcard via Postcrossing. It is an advertising card from Hong Kong. What saves it for me are the markings.

Not only did the sender send me a cheap card, but they didn't even use Air Mail postage. Thing is... how does mail from Hong Kong get to the USA via "surface mail"?

You have to be forgiving sometimes Nells,
postcrossing people are not philatelists, in the main.
It may be a young lad or gal, sending the card.

That aside I think you have a cracker postcard there,
insufficient postage, air mail marker monkey cross,
quite an unusual package.

By ship along with regular parcels. Sea-Mail the Aussies call it. This one would be the slow boat from China. Is the postmark Feb 16, 2011 ? Took two months?

Indeed nice markings. Makes it unique. Be better with a nice cat in a hexagon or something but still . . .

Makes me want to join up, just for the odd, desirable goof-up like that one.

Took a peek... the postcard was marked online as being sent on February 11, 2011. Stupid me didn't even think to look into that!

I wonder how much mail in modern times hitches a ride on a boat? And on what type of boat/ship?

Well you know if you get any ugly old postcards like that I can trade you a pretty, clean foreign postcard to replace it. ;o)
