In addition to the 3c Washington on cover that I posted in another thread, I also received four BlackJacks on cover -- three are Scott #73 and the fourth has a very feint grill that I have yet to identify.

And the next challenge:

Gorgeous stamps!!

Glad to hear someone had a nice mail day. We got one magazine today and that was it! And, it wasn't even for me, LOL.

Thank you both. And spanishmoss, what you described is the typical mail day for me (if you add 3 or 4 bills into the mix) -- today was a pleasant departure from the norm.

just lovely, tomiseksj. The black jack has always been one of my favorites. Very nice cancellation on the second from top.

tomiseksj,

Here's hoping that we can all enjoy a mail day like you had, once in awhile. Those are some awesome Black Jacks! Let us know what the grill is when you find out.

artlaunier,

The grill is either a D, E or Z. Unfortunately it wasn't strong enough for Bill W. to positively identify it on the cover (he wasn't able to see the direction of the grill points or count the rows accurately). The odds are that it is an E grill but the difference in value between the three possibilities is so significant that I felt compelled to go for positive identification. This evening I removed it from the cover and will resubmit it once it is dry.

Very nice cork fancy cancel and even cooler grill. There is just something about that portrait of Jackson that intrigues me.

Are you going to reattach it to the cover when it comes back from being examined?

Thanks, I_Love_Stamps. Having to remove the grill from the cover bordered on the traumatic but, as my wife rightfully pointed out, wondering if it was a D or Z grill would have been even worse. On a positive note, it was my first experience using Stamp Lift and the product worked exactly as advertised -- painted the backing on the inside of the cover and the stamp lifted off within seconds.

Ron,

No. When it comes back the certificate will identify it as being off cover so I'll just mount it in my album. The cover now has an unsightly ring from the Stamp Lift -- I probably used too much but my objective was to easily remove the stamp.

I wouldn't have the heart to do that. I have several BJ's on cover, a couple with grills. I just visit with them every once in awhile and ask them who they are. Never do get an answer.

And you've gotta live with what you've done... Do I have "soaker's remorse?" -- sure. But wondering if the stamp was an 84 ($4500), an 85B ($1500), or an 87 ($200) would have kept me up at night. It might have been different had the cover been a bit more interesting.

Now that it's off cover, perhaps you've decided you have too many of these? This one would look great in my collection!
