"... ARE WE THERE YET?" I like looking for deeper meaning in that. From children's stamp design winner, Morgan Hill, age 9. |

This is another "Stampin' the Future" stamp design winner. It's also my favorite "space" stamp. Thank you Ashley Young, age 11. |

This one commemorates the 30th anniversary of John Glenn's first orbital flight. |

To get away from the clubs for now, here's the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics set on covers from a chemistry conference in Atlantic City, NJ. I love Lake Placid any time of year. Chemistry's not bad, either! |

Quote: Mod.... My friends reply, I have no idea.
Curious to know about the feedback Bob, I got feedback from him today so asked him why this cover -- it's on page 4 of this thread -- got bid up so high. It did have to do with the SAAR slogan cancel and his wanting to have it for his collection. He got right back to me, and here's what he wrote: According to the literature, there are 65 German towns that used this cancel. Liegnitz is one I hadn't seen before. I have over half, so I didn't want to miss an opportunity to get a smaller town that used this cancel (I am very interested in the propaganda of the Saar plebiscite). I hope someday to find a reference that actually will list the towns that used this cancel and the dates. |

Have some new old covers that came in a box of stuff I bought last week. While I enjoy looking at them, my collecting is limited to stamps, so most it not all of these will probably end up on ebay at sometime. This is an 1889 registered cover from Belfast (Northern Ireland) to Ontario Canada, with a wax seal and additional postage on the back. |

Here's a 1939 cover from Antwerp Belgium to Morrisville Pennsylvania. The semi-postals are part of the 1939 Rubens set with the surcharge to be used to restore the artist's home in Antwerp. |

This is an 1876 folded, stamped letter from Italy to Philadelphia. If there was something more inside, I don't know because this is blank on the other side. Bob, don't tell me you see some relationship in this one! |

One thing about covers, unless they are manufactured FDC's or bulk pieces, each and every one is potentially unique. So there are infinitely (used loosely) more covers to collect than stamps! |

Here's a postpaid Swiss military cover that translates "Military Internment in Switzerland." So does that mean a prison camp or a draftee? Maybe not all that much difference to some. Actually, what translates as internment might really mean encampment, such as an Army base. As best I can figure, Genf is Geneva. And since there are absolutely no date markings it would probably take a specialist to give it a time frame. Wonder if desertgem would know? |
