The hammer and sickle are the Russian icons I think and the crescent moon and star are from Turkey.

Azerbaijan is physically located in between the two countries and perhaps shares peoples and symbols?

Am I close in my wonderings?

Azerbaijan is a mainly Muslim country whose people are very closely related to the Turks.

However, the region was part of the Russian Empire and the USSR with just a brief period of independence inbetween.

The earliest Azerbaijan stamps did not incorporate the hammer and sickle...that design element began appearing in 1922 with the stamps of the Soviet Socialist Republic.

By the way, the third stamp in the top row is a semi-postal, also 1922.

Yes, Azerbaijan is a Turkic country. The language is very similar to Turkish.
