I think clutter is underated,
there is something comforting to see heaps of junk,
books, catalogues, glassines, hagners, album pages,
binders, magazines, auction papers etc.
There is a promise that exciting things still await discovery.

Where I like order and discipline is in the finished product,
Albums and slipcases like soldiers all in a row,
and the Literature Library, that has to be in order
so that references can be made immediately.
These I have in two Browns lockable metal cabinets.

That's a sore point here. After repeated complaints from the Mrs about 'some' philatelic items laying around, I emptied her mirrored dressing cabinet draws and filled them up with those items after she had gone to work. When she came home and discovered what I'd done, nothing was said, surprisingly.

3 days later, to my astonishment, a payed for bigger dressing cabinet arrived with heaps more draws. I never tried to be a smart**** again.

Do any of you struggle with balancing the non-philatelic clutter with your stamp

Good Lord, YES.

It's so funny, just yesterday, I was thinking of starting this same thread. My office is a wreck. I want it to be organized, but it's so hard to start when the clutter gets out of hand.

I was going to take few photos of my work area, post them here, and use it as inspiration to clean and organize. Maybe I still will. Maybe tomorrow .....

ROD: I think clutter is underated

A former professor and good friend of mine taught me his motto, "If it's flat, stack something on it."

Me myself I have a great Pile-it program not only for stamps but for everything else. My kids have also caught that bug as well so there is a bit of disorganization everywhere around here. But we are an extremely happy family.

If it wasn't for the wall behind my head I would be surrounded on all fronts and thats the living room, dining/kitchen at the moment two drying stations , beautiful oak table hidden under latest aquisition. Bedroom --well theres a bed in there with a pathway and short jump over a box or two. Mrs Nitro has earmarked all stamps to be used as kindling for my cremation which may be at her hands.
If she seen LB's desk she'd slap me into next week!!

Hey NitroLures...do you like Bass fishing? I just got all my high end gear out today (St.Croix, G.Loomis, Fenwick) and thought of your screen name for some reason... :]

My stamp work station is very clean and tidy and I've been told I have an O.C.D. about clutter...lol

A tidy desk is the sign of a sick mind.

One of the joys of being disorganised is that you are constsntly making exciting, new discoveries.

After the rare times I try to clean up the clutter, I can never find anything afterward. Organization may be over-rated.

And LB, if that is your idea of clutter----words fail me.

timbres667, LOL! My wife would kill me if I sorted stamps on our bed and they probably would end up all over the floor or in my dog's mouth.
