I don't usually think of the United States as having produced many tete-beche stamps, but here are two from 1978.

However, technically, neither of these is "upside-down" in relation to it's partner(s).

Do they still count as tete-beche?

I say no, Tete-beche would be true if they were the same stamp. These are better examples of se-tenant which is for different stamps tied together.

Yes, of course warrehouse. I don't know what I was thinking.

Embarrassed,
Kirk

The quilt block is interesting in that the diagonal stamps are truly upside down in relation to one another. Does that count as tete-beche?

Does tete-beche specifically require that the stamp in question be different and 180 degrees turned? Or can the same stamp design be tete-beche as long as the relationship between the stamps is 180 degrees turned?

Yes, Humpy:

Here's a thread by Londonbus about "true" Tete-Beche stamps.

Yes, the items shown by Kirk are not Tete-Beche because they are not Head-to-Tail.
Warrehouse said T-B should be the same stamp and that is also true. I think we gave Se-tenant stamps that are Head-to-Tail a new name a while ago.....Se-Tenant Tete-Beche Pairs !

What Kirk has are Head-to-Side which is not common, at least I don't recall seeing too many. So maybe this would make a neat Topical Collection and would pose quite a challenge.

In answer to Rohumpy's query about the Diagonal stamps, they are also not Tete-Beche as the pair needs to be joined and the two diagonal stamps are not.
The same goes for self-adhesive looking Tete-Beche pairs. The die-cutting means that they are not truly Tete-Beche because they are not joined. They are merely Tete-Beceh in relation to each other but not a Tete-Beche pair.
All triangular stamps of the same design are printed Tete-Beche.
