I couldn't help but share my new catch.
It's big, its kinda ugly, its seldom seen. Almost like I was when I was young and went to a dance, a wall flower.

Scott #R189, $50 - Gray, Hyphen-hole perf 7.

I hope the SweedishTiger won't mind but I borrowed his stamp image until I can get back home and scan mine. Beside, his cancel looks better than my straight line cancel. BTW, if you haven't been to his site yet, please do. he did a super job of putting it together and I use it all the time while I'm on the road. Its a great reference site.

You're right artlaunier, that site is amazing. I've got it bookmarked and it will be an excellent source of reference.
I was looking through some of the pages and noticed something looking at the page on the 1922-25 Regular series. I'd never noticed before but the view of Niagara Falls on the 25c yellow green is the Canadian Falls (Horseshoe Falls).

At least they could have put a little footnote at the bottom of the stamp. Credit where credit is due, after all.
FYI, I borrowed this image from him too.

Very Nice! That is the only one I am missing from the series.
Congrats!

Sorry builderr, didn't mean to confuse. I was just pointing out what I noticed about the mis-identification (if only implied) of the Canadian Falls as American. Found it looking at the swedishtiger site mentioned by artlaurnier.
By the way art, terrific documentary. Why did they overprint 50 on a $50 stamp?

James, two things;
1) The falls is best seen from the Canadian side, the American side... well it just isn't worth going to so I can understand it being on a US stamp.

2) Why the 50 printed on a $50.00 stamp? The only reason I can think of is that the color of the stamp would make the denomination real hard to see consequently, they printed the value on all of this series. That's just my opinion and in no way fact. There is another reason I'm sure. Perhaps one of our REV GURUs can answer this.

Hey Art
You're right, that is the Canadian side. But the US/Canada border is on the far side of the falls, crossing over a little spot of land called Goat Island (NY), then the US falls is on the other side of the island. Ours is more picturesque, so I can understand their wanting to borrow it.

Builderr, I was referring to the Scott #R189. I have the '22-'25 Series complete MNH. Though I haven't opened that album in 10-15 years. I pretty much stopped collecting everything except for Revenues and Germany(Pre 1946) about 15-20 years ago.

Sorry all, didn't mean to cloud a good thread with unrelated comments about Niagara Falls. I should'a posted it separately. Carry on with the very nice documentary stamp. I wasn't even here.......

I managed to get a scan of my new R189. Its a little off center, the perfs could be a little better but its a welcomed addition to my collection and it finished out that series.

Overall I think this in a pretty good copy! Depending on the cost of course. Most R189's I have seen have a minor fault or 2.

artlaunier, that is one great site! I don't collect US at the moment (I keep any US I get of course, but I am not in 'search mode'), but that site makes me want to start today!

Thanks for the link!

Actually, that's not a bad R189 at all. Nicer than mine...
