Hovercraft

Hi all from the UK,
By way of introduction I am Ken and I collect hovercraft mail, hovercraft stamps, hovercraft postcards, timetables, tickets etc. I have been collecting this material since the world's first passenger hovercraft service operated locally back in 1962 (49 years ago!!). I am a founder member of the Hovermail Collectors' Club (1968) and have edited our quarterly journal 'Slipstream' since issue 97 in June 1979. Our August issue will be number 325! 228 issues in 32 years!
We are always keen to hear from anyone who shares our interest and our Members are more than willing to share information etc. Get in touch if you are interested in hovercraft activity. I am happy to give talks and displays on hovercraft activity which is illustrated by covers from my collection from around the world.
I also collect the Pietro Annigoni portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on stamps, bank notes, aerogrammes etc. but don't find anything to talk about!!

Welcome! Please tell us more and show us more. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there is/was hovercraft mail service. Especially, when you consider all the other modes available: railway, boat, train, bus, bicycle, dogsled, balloon, pigeon, mule, airplane, helicopter, etc.

Ken! That's a really neat subject. I never have seen any "hover-mail" before and now gotta check out your periodical. Thank you for the info and pictures!

Thanks Dave, Stamperdude and I_love_stamps. Anyone who wants info on my hovercraft interest can email me for more details. I have tried to put these details here but too big. I will get more pics onto this site asap. There are thousands to choose from!! Over 1100 postcards and I have no idea how many hovermail covers but they are written-up and stored in more than 20 lever arch files.
I have been collecting this stuff for almost 50 years so there is a real history of hovercraft activities on my shelves, quite apart from books etc.
Let me have your email addresses and I will be happy to send you a copy of "Slipstream" and details of the Hovermail Collectors' Club.
A week away to Devon 13-17 June so there might be a delay in replying.

Thanks for your interest and encouragement.
I think I have introduced hovercraft to the TOPICAL section, but this is all a bit new and high-tech for me. I'm not 12 years old as stated on my profile (which would probably make this computer malarkey dead easy! [I have tried to change my age on my profile but can't even do this task even though I have read the instructions! What hope is there for me??!] I am retired nowadays.
For Stampgal to try to collect World stamps is just too daunting to contemplate! I tried this when I got my first stamp album at age 7 but after 4 or 5 years decided to simply collect British Commonwealth. This was too much so I decided on QE2 only. Still too big but I noticed that the stamps I liked all bore the Annigoni portrait of the Queen so I set about collecting these issues. I now have a large collection of these stamps, plus aerogrammes and a few banknotes. I even have a gold coin from Ghana with the portrait on it in colour! Hovercraft is my main interest though.

if you have a look at some of the other profiles, you will find quite a few retired 12, 13 and 14 yr olds, so you are not the only one to find it confusing!
My suggestion to post in the topicals section was really for you to show again and discuss some of the great items you have already posted in this thread. This section is introductory, so firstly only members have access to posts here, and secondly, not all members visit this section very often. I wouldn't want your efforts to be wasted. I saw your post in the topicals section, perhaps you could add some pics to it and the discussion could continue there. You can edit the post by clicking the icon of a page and pencil at the top of the post.
Another reason to post outwith the introductory area is that posts here do not count towards your overall post total. Should you wish to buy, sell or trade with other members (which happens a lot) then you will need 50 posts. Posts here are "wasted" from that point of view.
I hope I'm helping and not causing more confusion, feel free to ask any questions, I or someone else will be happy to answer.
