I fell like this is turning into an auction site. So many people, people I have never seen post before.
Perhaps the forum admins should be getting a piece of the action to help support the forum.

I think its more of collectors getting rid of their duplicates and helping out others collectors and newbies at fair prices. If you start charging fees, you may want to consider renaming this forum ebay Oh wait a second..you cant advertise on the ebay stamp forum |

My stamp club has auctions, and sales and trades. Doesn't make it any less of a community. Someone on another thread suggested an area just for auctions. Maybe that would be more palatable for some? |

bobggg, that's just where I am coming from. Got to over 70 posts before I dipped my toe in the water just tonight, now trying to see if anyone will help my stamp addiction by feeding their own! Anything I make via SCF auctions will go straight back on stamps, probably on this site! DavidR |

I was thinking about this situation recently, the realization although 50 QUALITY posts is a min' it takes many more posts for established members to see ones true colors, intent etc.

I am looking forward to the new setup where the auction section will be deparate from the philatelic discussion section. Sounds like that will be a reality by the end of the year. |

It will remain 50 to buy. |

There are currently 23 active auctions by 13 people the oldest was started on 6-8. During that same period there have been 259 active threads started or posted to (this does not include the buy/sell section, support section or family section). That means that only 8.5% of the post were auctions. |

The new setup will put an end to this stuff which is what causes the most clutter. There should not be any posts that are not a bid or a direct question or answer about the auction. If the extraneous chatter was eliminated from all auction and sale items this topic wouldn't be here. As I said though, the new setup will end it all. You can see it in action now on the coin forum. |

Personally, I'm looking forward to it! I have yet to place anything for sale but I have a ton of duplicates that I want to get rid of. Starting out, I collected everything and even trashed a few covers for a 2 cent stamp. When the new "Sales" site is up and running I plan on getting rid of a lot of U.S. starting at the price of postage. |

I look forward to the new auction format and will probably start selling some duplicates on this forum in the near future. |

I have my fair share of auctions recently to unload WW stuff I ended up with just to get some MNH Canadian. Obviously the new format will great and helpful to all but to criticize anyone with 50 or just over for selling seems ridiculous . How many newbies have wanted info on their items and many (myself included) have all but begged them to get to 50 and please offer your wares here. This is by far the best place I've found on the net that encourages new members and seldomly criticizes for piddly things like spelling, punctuation and even not searching for topics that have been posted over and over again. The simple insinuation against new members for selling to much is enough to turn away potentially great new knowledgeable members of the site. I do believe ultimately the goal is to grow and with growth comes pains but rather than shooting down new members they are the future of the site and should be encouraged. I'm sure if a 51 post member put up a couple zeps (for example) at a low start there would be no complaints . Just my 2 cents Canadian which is now worth 2.001 with exchange! Edit for spelling with only 3 mistakes |

That is good news! I also look forward to seeing the new auction/sale setup. I am sure those here purely for the discussion will really appreciate the efforts!

I guess the new site will be good for auctions, and separate them from the rest of the dialogue. Keep things nice an organized. But personally, I like the banter that goes on with an auction. It gives it a more relaxed and welcoming feel. Sure, comments can go off on tangents, and sometimes tempers flare. But I think that's what makes this place enjoyable. For a site that is 'virtual' and 'online' it still has a nice personal feel, in a new medium which can be very impersonal. I also agree with nitrolures, and it's not necessarily the newbies who can make things uncomfortable. Oh, and Chris?..."for selling too much..." Four spelling mistakes, but who's counting? |
