Have to agree for the most part but the last local mish mash I grabbed was in such disaray that if he checked he certainly wasn't to good at it. Now I have a bunch of sorted by country but they are certainly not checked by me . Usually I have second thoughts about listing a country once I get them all scanned, I start thinking I should check but honestly hope someone from here finds a treasure. I'll probably look back and regret not searching but for now they just gotta go .

you may want to avoid items that use the words...UNCHECKED

i strongly disagree. I have had an instance where I have seen one of the most sought after stamp lying in a pile of not-so-great stamps that had the message of "unchecked" in its title. (on ebay)

you never know !

The word I particularly find amusing is "RARE" sometimes followed by "!" to add emphasis; it's even funnier when it is followed by a completely unrealistic price;

Yes, this amuses me too. 'UNIQUE' is also bandied about.
So how rare is rare ? And if there are 2,000 issued, are they unique ?
What numbers would you class as rare,Scarce or Hard to find ?

My Oxford Dictionary tells me that Unique means there is only one. And yet it is so often used by Dealers, auctioneers and ebayists.

Collect covers! Every one is unique in its own way, FDC's excluded of course.

Jubilee, what would one term a 1989 F.D.C. dated and issued one month early by the largest GPO in the city.
Only two in existence, so what term is appropriate if I ever sell, unique suggests one(as you state), scarce suggests not plentiful, rare suggests very hard to find.

Have had the opportunity to play a little with stamp description words and it has been a load of fun.
Condition a little mixed on pre1930s. Works
Heavier cancels. Works
Plain decription. Works
Unchecked. Does not work
Big sales pitch. Does not work
Grade description. Does not work
This is a very interesting science.lol

Finches, I would describe that as it is, "One of only two in existence". In the title, "rare" wouldn't be out of place, however, these mis-dated items are freaks IMHO

I liked the example that was quoted in a recent thread on SCF -Selling a "rare" stamp on ebay, the quote went something like - "Very few - if any - are known to exist".
