Brand new member. Just inherited collection from my Dad and am a little over my head with what to do with it. Starting reading posts and very interesting.

Lots to learn if you want to. Sometimes it's a lot to take in. Just take it slow and do what is interesting to you. Lots of different ways to collect and enjoy stamps and postal items.

Ask questions if you can't find the answer you want by searching or need further clarification. That keeps those who know the answer on their toes, lol.

Having a scanner is a great thing for showing detailed pics of stamps too. A camera is OK but hard to get a good shot of single stamps unless you are a pro.

Any catalogs or books inherited too? Older? Recent? Lots of info online now-a-days.

Are your stamps mostly used (cancelled) or mint (not cancelled, new with gum)? Do you have worldwide too?

Welcome to the MOST friendly stamp collecting forum on the WWW, JMO.

I'm sure you Dad created a great collection and thus what you have received is something to be treasured. What country was your Dad collecting? Like Puzzler indicted, there is probably a stamp catalog of the country(s) in the collection. That, along with the collection in front of you is the best place to start. Learn what you have in the collection. I'm sure you'll find some surprises. Be advised that even if a stamp is old doesn't mean that it has a high value. Remember, most of the stamps were printed in the millions. Learn to use the catalog.If you need help, just post the question and I'm sure you'll get your answer and more.

It may seem overwhelming to start with but its fairly easy to pick up and learn about collecting stamps.

We are all here to help and I can tell you that even some of us that have been collecting since the invention of the wheel, we still feel like we are in over our head sometimes, but all the SCF members are here to help and support and they do a grand job at it.
