It was mentioned in the other thread "A Regummmed C15" that there seemed to be "something going on" with the blue color on the C15 that appeared "smeared" for lack of a better term. Looking at the C15 plate block posted in the this ebay listing, I see the same sort of shading on the selvage strip and slightly into the right two stamps. Maybe this is common for such an issue? (I don't know, as they are above my budget.)

Also, the 65-cent stamp seems to have a slight crease in the selvage to the left of the plate number and in the right selvage as well. I can't tell from the scan whether it extends into the stamps themselves or not, but a serious buyer should have the forethought to check that out. Also, that block of stamps is not as well centered as the others and seems to have a few short perfs at the top.

Also, the $1.30 plate block seems to again have a slight crease in the selvage below the right stamp and I can't tell from the scan if it extends into the stamp or not.

Not that these are insurmountable issues, as these are truly beautiful stamps, but for a set of stamps that is being sold at an asking price of some 16% ABOVE CATALOG VALUE for stamps that while desirable, are not as rare as some may think, the price seems way out of line.

Only my opinion, of course, but as I said earlier they are out of my budget, so I really don't care. But if I were a serious buyer, I would exercise caution based on the price considering the issues recited above.

Would certainly be a nice set to own, but for $18,000 I can think of other stamps that I would buy first. (btw, my Plate # Catalog lists four different P#'s for this set, so if you were really going to completeness, prepare to spend another 70k or so!)

Also I noted the centering on the blocks is not very good. On the C13 & C14 blocks the perfs nearly cut into the design and there is also some type of brownish stain on the top center C13.

As a side note, I've seen many listings from NYStamps but many of them seem to show sub-par items (at least for their price) so as a general rule I shy away from their auctions.

btw, as for pricing, and given the condition, I'm in agreeance with wt1 that the asking price is a bit high - at least they're accepting offers.

As for catalog price they list it as $23,500.

According to my catalogs...

2008 Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog (does not place premium on NH):

C13 - $2,400
C14 - 6,000
C15 - 8,500
============
Tot - $16,900

2010 Scott Specalized (NH):

C13 - $3,000
C14 - 7,600
C15 - 11,000
============
Tot - $21,600

So I'm not exactly sure where they're getting their figures, perhaps the latest 2012 Scott? Nevertheless, all these prices are for VF blocks, which at least two of these blocks are not.

Factor in the other condition issues like blemish on the C13 as well as pronounced gum breakers showing through on the design side and I think $6,000-9,000 would be a fairer price to be asking.

I know right! lol I do know this though, for 18K that would NOT be my first choice. A great lot to look at but I certainly wouldn't mortgage my farm for it! ha-ha
