Really?,no comments at all?? huh? Well I enjoy the way they look anyway. I like the J.C. Ayers Proprietary myself. I also got another little bundle in the mail today if anyone would want to see them? If any interest I'll scan them (yes I figured out my scanner finally) and post. |

Correct me if I'm mistaken but the last 2 are just regular postage issues but with a "I.R." stamped on them. Is this perhaps an example of the illegal use of stamps for revenue purposes? I'd be curious to know. Thank you. |

Hi I-Love-Stamps. Thanks for the pics. I'm new here and collect Private Die Prop. and the die cut Ayers stamp is always an eye catcher. When my scanner arrives I'll share some pics with you. Meanwhile I would enjoy any other pics you want to post. |

You are correct that those last two stamps are regular postage stamps overprinted with "I.R.", but they are not illegal, but a legal use of those issues for revenue purposes. |

An interesting point on the Peace Bridge Cover you posted. I don't have that Artcraft First Day Cover, but wonder why there are misprints in the cachet. In the bottom two lines, the line "100 YEARS "C" FRIENDSHIP" (should have been "OF") and "UNITD" should be "UNITED" as in "UNITED STATES".
I wonder if these cacheted covers may have been "seconds". With the typewritten script address, I suspect the cover was part of a first day cover subscription that was popular in that day, but if they were -- and they were purchased at a considerable cost -- it would not have been like Artcraft to have produced cacheted covers with such glaring misprints.
Anyone else have any experience with such a thing? |

Wow WT1 I never even spotted that either! Good catch! I'll have to dig that out again and make sure that it is what it appears as my scanner was being wonky earlier and might have just been an artifact of that. I'll check on it. |

2nd Row, 2nd Stamp Federal Fuel Administration (WW1). The Federal Fuel Administration was run by Henry Garfield it introduced daylight savings time. And rationed fuel supplies such as coal and oil to aid the US military and keep it well supplied. These stamps come in 5 values. 1, 2, 5, 10, and 25 Ton. (Borrowed the pic as I am missing the 1 & 5) |

Quote: I'll have to dig that out again and make sure that it is what it appears as my scanner was being wonky earlier and might have just been an artifact of that It could very well have been your scanner. Now that I look at it again it seems that your scanner may have jumped at the point of those words in the text as the scanned cover also shows a jump in the title with the "y" in "Anniversary" and the "RI" in "BRIDGE". Probably explains it, since it would have been highly irregular for a company such as Artcraft to have released anything less than perfect to their retail audience. |
