US 10 Cent Washington (A27) Faint Grill Help Please

All in all not a bad stamp for $5 . There was no suggestion or hint of a grill in the pic but now she is home it looks to me as there is a faint grill but I can't really tell the points nor begining or end for measurement. Can a trained eye tell from the pic? I mean its a whole mm between $300 value and $125K not that I think its a Z but it wouldn't dissapoint me.

Thanks Russ -I tried inverting some colors and made it a bit clearer but still wasn't 100%. Can you actually count them or are you just that firmiliar with general size compared to overall stamp? Not 100k but still a nice surprise considering the cost.

Nitro, I did a RGB color decomposition and the blue showed the grill pretty good. I could count the horizontal to be 12 and the top and bottom edges of the grill were clear but I couldn't count the vertical. I imported the image into a vector design program and was able to measure the grill to be approx 8.95mmX13.06mm so it has to be a "F" grill.
A couple of pulled perfs and 2 horizontal creases, but it does have both a red and blue cancel. I think it is well worth the price.

Just out of curiousity, what Sc# did the seller put forth?
Is a 96 better than what they described, or you expected?
Or did they just sell it as an 'old US 10c stamp'?

I am just curious. I'd love to buy one of those for that price!

The listing was simply Old US classic. I tend to do odd searches just to see what pops up and occasionally find great deals that are basically just not titled properly with no SC# . Could not see the fold from the scan but for the $5 I didn't think there was much to loose. I think the Cat value is pretty close with this grill or with none at all . Ironically I did also win one that was described with grill that may likely be the same so I may have an extra when it arrives.

Nice purchase with a nicer surprise. What about the cancel? Might it be a fancy cancel of some kind? I see a square (possibly 2 squares) with a negative circle(s) which looks interesting.

The cancel is interesting but not sure what it translates to. Also not sure why both blue and orange on same stamp. Other curiosity as I looked at the cancel again - Is the area over the left shoulder that looks like a torn pc of clothing normal or is that George's pony tail holder flapping in the wind?

I'm not sure what that is over his left shoulder but it is on all of stamps with this particular portrait of George. The multiple cancel colors are simply revealing that the stamp was struck several times with a different color cancel at each location in the delivery process.

Expanding a bit on what quigngt said, the 10c was used for overseas postage. And so you'll see multiple postal markings not just from this side of the pond, but the other. The orange is probably from Europe.
