The closest I can find in my 2003 Scotts is R84c $2.50 Inland Exchange purple 1863. The design in the picture (which is a conveyance stamp) is ever so slightly different (numeral 2 in corners in picture rather than stars and U. and S that are in yours) 2003 value $6.50. Very pretty. And a very nice script cancel too. Makes buying those lots worth while, doesn't it? |

Thank you and YES it sure does!I think this scan is a tad darker than the original if that helps any? I didn't think it especialy rare as I'm sure it's pretty common (as most of my stuff is) but I like it tremendously. I'm really starting to enjoy the revenues and I have always been a fan of the B.O.B. stuff. |

Sorry Jay. I'm pretty sure that is the number R84c. It is the only number listed in my Scott's with a $2.50 denomination, and it is listed as Inland Exchange. I'm sure one of our resident revenue experts will know more. Sorry I can't help beyond that. |

No jamesw that was great of you to do that and I'm very thankful. You just said that there was slight differences and I wasn't sure if that made it a completely different animal or just a variation? I suppose I should have been more clear...and grateful! |

It is an R84c. The pigments on this stamp were unstable resulting in at least a dozen color variations. |

Everything is worth something to someone! Assuming this is a "C" and not a "Silk paper" (doubtful it is) with no faults it would sell for $15-$20. |

Be very careful when checking whether a 1st issue is a silk paper. 1st issue silk papers look NOTHING like the chameleon paper of the 2nd issue. Legitimate silk papers on the 1st issue might have only 1 fibre per stamp, or even one every other stamp (I have some silk paper multiples where not every stamp in the block shows a blue fibre).
Use a 10x or higher loupe and go over the back of the stamp with a fine-toothed comb.
I cannot count the number of silk papers I have found in major dealer inventories filed as normal papers. Picking up a stamp that catalogs $50-150 when marked as catalog value of $1-2 gives one warm fuzzies.
Unfortunately the more frequent occurrence is that the VAST majority of 1st issue silk papers in dealer inventories (excluding revenue specialists like Richard, Eric, and Frank) in fact are no such thing. Most are stamps with coarse bits of wood pulp or something stuck to the back of the stamp.
If it's not a blue thread, I usually won't consider it. |
