1870's Era Franklin's Etc

Hi Gang,

The following stamps arrived in Grok's cave today (accompanying some lovely new Walloon and Pilgrim's, I assume they were there to keep Grok from eating the Pilgrim's). (Thanks Ratio411!! )

I'm a little unsure of some of the early US stamps.

Exhibit # 1. 1 cent Franklin, This one has no grill and no secret mark that I can see. So is this one Scott 145?



Exhibit # 2. 3 cent Jackson circa 1894 Scott 253 I believe.



Exhibit # 3. 2 Cent Washington, Carmine I think so 220?



Exhibit # 4. 1920's vintage Washington, Perf 10 Vertical #599??




Anyone here able to confirm these for me please?

First one is re-engraved 206, second is either 253 (unwatermarked) or 268 (wmk 191)

Yes, I should have mentioned that # 2 is un-watermarked.

How would you explain the markings on the second stamp?

The typewriter was a feature of the 1875 Philly expo
to find a pre stamped cover of that expo with typewritten address
would be a great find.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I have no idea about the markings.

The second one almost looks like the entire sheet of stamps
was fed through a typewriter and repeatedly marked "La Crosse
Wisconsin" over and over. Would that be a type of 'precancel'?

After looking at this link, I see a 145.
The 206 has the secret mark and the shading in the upper
corners is all shadow, while the 145 has a shadow of the
framing visible. The scans are small, but I see a 145.

Now after looking here (same site, different page)
I see a 206! Crap, just when you thought you had
it all figured out...

Looking at the link above, and at the stamp with a strong magnifier it suggests a secret mark (if there's any blue at all, it's a mark). Also, the arabesque looks more like the 206.
