115 With Quadruple Split Grill?

I was going through my extras when I came across this stamp. I have had it for years but don't ever recall noticing the multiple grills. Maybe I never paid much attention to it due to the huge missing chunk. The US Postal Service Guide to US Stamps lists a #115 quadruple split grill. I am pretty sure that I see at least 3 full grills (one is under the hinge piece) and a split one on the straight edge. Can someone tell me if it really is a quadruple split grill and what Scott says about it?

I can't help you with the grill, as I'm still learning that stuff but I love those pictorals! I guess if I was 142 years old I would probably have a chunk out of me too!

it is listed in my 2007 as $850

I'm not big on the grills but I thought a quad split grill was one part of the grill in each corner because the print and the grill was out of alignment and if the paper was in the right place then there would be a grill in each corner, yours I would say it is a triple impresion one being split like a double impresion stamp but I'm not sure if would be the same value or not?

I guess the longer I keep it, the more valuable it will become ... unless the whole market takes a major dive.

razersedge, That was also my opinion of a quad split grill. I have a #114 with a single split grill and it is quite clear that it is one grill split between two opposite sides of the stamp due to misalignment of the grilling process.

Looks like a double grill, one split. This is not a listed Scott variety (one of many). There is a clear complete grill in the middle, about 3/2 of a grill on right and 1/3 grill on left.

Well, Russ, since 2 grills must be worth less than 4 grills, I decided to take the stamp for a swim to remove the hinge for my own curiosity. You have a good eye and . Thanks. Any idea what for value in its poor condition?
