Hi all.. just wanted to share some of the goodies I bought of a collector this weekend. All for a 25 minute drive and $40

I figured the catalog themselves would be worth the 40 bucks.

Each of the boxes has stamps from WW countries sorted by sets in the glassines and 3 ziploc bags filled with off paper stuff.

All this plus 3 plastic boxes with slots in them to sort the stamps after soaking. The huge plastic bag contains mostly flag, liberty and pre-sort issues. Not sure what to do with it.

Wow, what a great find. I check Craig's List everyday hoping for a score like that.

Those could be checked for plate coil numbers. Some people collect those. They could also be donated for a scout stamp collecting merit badge workshop because a couple of the requirements are to have a coil stamp, a booklet stamp, a definitive, and a plate number coil stamp. They could find lots of all of those in your bag!

ramanandn,

Just out of curiosity, what search words do you use on Craig's List? I have tried, "stamps," "postage," and "stamp album," but haven't really had any luck finding any good deals.

What drives me crazy, is finding listings that say, "HUGE Lot of Stamps," only to realize they mean rubber stamps, and not postage stamps.

Also, I have gone to many garage sales that have ads in the paper stating they have "stamps," only to realize when I get there, they are rubber stamps. ARGGGHHHHH!

Aimee.. I just search for stamps. It just so happened that I hit the right link.
Yep, I have come across the rubber stamp ads too.

Nice catch Ram! You seem to have a knack for finding bargains!

I had an opportunity to buy some stamps collected by a long-time collector. A friend of his was "representing" him and had posted on craigslist. The only problem was that he wanted someone to come and help him value the stamps.

I don't have the time or patience for that and I'm not an expert.

Perhaps that's a defect of mine. I would just prefer a quick 10-15 minute glance at the collection and a quick negotiation. $50 is about the maximum I'm willing to spend at this point.

I have also had some good buy's from Craigslist.

When searching use this stamps -rubber -stampin. It gets rid of the rubber stamp stuff, works great for me. And what a haul for $40 bucks, enjoy.

Sue.. Craigslist is fundamentally a classifieds website where you can buy or sell or giveaway anything.

Thanks all for the comments. Have put the stuff aside for now; dealing with French stamps for now. Catalogs are awesome though.. had them in pdf format till now.

Cheers
Ram

Ram, what a great horde and buy. You are right too, the catalogs themselves would have been worth it, but you struck gold beyond the books. Great deal!!

Another recent buy.... below American Heirloom Album (3 volumes) and a American Liberty Album plus about 1000 stamps, with mounts for them, for $40. Just when I was thinking of printing my own pages

well done Ram. Guess we won't be 'seeing' you for a while.
I check craigslist periodically, but have never had that kind of luck.
enjoy.

Just in case if anyone interested and in the Boston area, he still has a DANSCO album (from 1941) plus a lot of stamps (mostly 1950, 60s sets) and couple of postage albums as well. Can post the link here if needed.
