Hi to all

I have not purchase any yet, but this shop I found with thousands of postcards has about a dozen that have a postmark,
Army Field post office, but they do not have stamps
Are they just a curiosity or are they collectable
Regards
Horamakhet

Hi Horamkhet

If the stamps had been removed, it is unfortuntate becasue the cancellation etc would be incomplete. However, if there was no stamp at all applied to the card, then this too is not unusual because there is a pretty good chance, since the postmark is of a military nature, that the sender was "On Active Duty" in the war theatre and was priviledged to have free sending of mail and postcards.

They were allowed so many envelopes and / or cards a week.

Also if any particular soldier was home on leave, then that 'free postage' privilege was temprorary removed until he went back into the theatre again, at which time the free postage status was again in full force.

Hope this helps

Hi Bujutsu

Thanks for the great information.
And Kflowers, there were never any stamps there.
I suppose that some person do collect them
If I remember one of them actually had a post stamp that said "On active Duty"

Regards

Horamakhet

Glad I was able to help.

One of my main collecting interests is Canadian military mail and I sure get a kick out of the covers I come across.

I am sure that any given collector could do a lifetime study in this area alone.

Let us know if you get them, and post pictures of the best. I'm always interested in what soldiers write home.

Hi Kflowers

Will do, most people who visit the shop are only interested in looking for rare postcard pictures and not the stamps so these one are common pictures so no-one wants them.
I will visit them next week and see what I can find, if I buy any I will certainly post a picture of them

Hi Horamkhet, If you mean cards like the one I have attached, they did not need a stamp, and yes in the UK these sell well, there are lots of people who collect them for the APO number.
Cheers Lofty
