New to this forum and a Question about postal rates in December, 1945.

Was there a "special" postal rate in Dec 1945? I have an envelope with a December 1945 postmark with a 1.5 cent stamp

Welcome PlumCrazy

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that one but I'm certain that someone will come along that does. I'm assuming that this is a US stamp, perhaps you should repost your question in the Classic US Section, it may get answered quicker.

Welcome Plum (didn't want to call you Crazy ):

I'm not sure about the "special" rate? The standard rate in 1945 was 1-cent for a postcard, and 3-cents for a one-ounce letter. I don't know about the fee for additional ounces.

A better approach might be the stamp itself. Can you post a scanned image? Can you describe the stamp?

During that era, I didn't think there were any U.S. stamps with fractional values.

Hello PlumCrazy814, welcome.

Is that a reference to the old Dodge colour?

KirkS: I think maybe they had a "special" Christmas rate? This is on an envelope that contained a Christmas card.

Maybe I can get a moderator to move this post to the correct forum.

Puzzler: Yes it is. It is also the color of our 2007 Plum Crazy Daytona, #814 of 1400

They may have had an "in town" rate. I know that I have quite a few. It is probably also a very small envelope and letter, so the weight may have reduced costs. Just my guessing. And welcome to the forum, I am certainly glad that you have chosen to join us plumcrazy814 (what happened to the other 813 plum crazies?)- Jeff
