Here is a link to a page I wrote on how to interpret Cyrillic letters. http://ifixinstruments.com/Cyrillic%20post.htm

The Cyrillic alphabet is used to write Russian, Bulgarian, Serbian and many non-Russian languages in former Soviet-area countries.

I have been wanting to post this for a while, but could not get the gremlins to work they way I wanted. The Cyrillic letters would not show up on the forum.

While you may not understand what is written on your stamp, you may be able to determine basic information such as country of origin or airmail vs regular postage, etc. You could even use the translation page at Babelfish with a basic transliteration.

Please let me know what you think.

Dave

Thanks Dave.

I have always had problems with the Cyrillic alphabet, it's all Greek to me.

Ditto for any other non Latin script.

It will came in handy for sure.

Very nice reference Dave.

Like many, I have trouble with Cyrillic (and Chinese, Japanese, Greek), so this will come in very handy.

In my oppinion, worse than Cyrillic is Hungarian. Change a ''' Vowel to '' or ' and you have a completly different word and meaning! And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Hungarian... Many consider it to be unlearn-able unless you were born into it.

It almost is! I wish I had paid more attention when my Grandfather wanted to teach it to me. My father only remembers a very little and he grew up in a house where it was spoken all the time. I only know a few words. But that dosen't mean a will stop trying. Listening to it spoken is quite beautyfull!
