Subtitled Haste Makes Waste!

This nice airmail cover arrived the other day with a wonderful falcon motif airmail etiquette printed on the envelope. I was so tired that day that I just grabbed the mail out of the mail box and stuffed it (cringe) alongside a newspaper in a bag I was carrying. Not so bad you say.

But I had not examined the envelope or the stamp first off (as I like to do and usually do) before stuffing away tiredly and so didn't notice that one stamp was not completely affixed to the envelope. Thus it got caught by the passing newspaper / bag and it ripped and bent.

I feel so bad.

It is not every day that one has an envelope with real postally used stamps from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The envelope will be saved intact, no soaking off for these fine fellows.

Beautiful United Arab Emirates 2007 hunting hawk (probably a falcon, I see now, looking at other UAE stamps) stamp (notice the tie straps hanging down), the nicest looking stamp too. And I think I probably mangled the corner of the envelope in my haste also.

Interesting half Arabic / half English cancellation dated 18 July 2011:

The saving grace (well, for me anyway) is that upon scanning and examining the damage caused I finally realized that the 2010 blue 25 year JAFZA Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (whatever that is) stamp has a hexagon in the center of the graphic in the lower part of the stamp. A real bonus for me (collects hexagons).

edit typos and added falcon notes, and again

Even damage a bit it's a nice cover. The hawk airmail etiquette is beautiful.

Puzzler,

Actually, I'm the one who sent you this envelope enclosing your winning ebay items! I didn't even notice that was you!

What a coincidence!

Actually, what you see as a "hawk" drawing on the postage stamp is basically a scribe forming the word "EMIRATES" in Arabic calligraphy!

Please refer to this link for a brief idea:

Meanwhile, I'll check with my P.O. to see if those stamps are still available so I send you a BLK from each one of them (as a gift) if you like

Cheers

James, thank you for saying it was you. I looked and looked for the cinderella thread where you mentioned your ebay listings and couldn't get my brain to come up with the proper combination of words to search for so as to find it.

I apologize for not mentioning it was me on ebay. I usually think that people assume it is me because of the similarity of user names but that is me assuming I know what everyone else is thinking and knowing. Impolite of me indeed.

That is a great job by the designers with the hawk (probably a falcon I see now) graphic. Canada had a stamp made of letter G's celebrating graphic design that was supposed to look like a beaver but you had to really look and squint your eyes to see it. Not at all like the regal and imperial image of the hawk (falcon).

Thanks for the link that explains the business connection of the free zone.

Thank you for the generous offer of the stamps. I will e-mail you to discuss it.

I look at that Canada G stamp again and I get the image of a Great clawed and fanged vampire Gerbil. Boy oh boy, have to stop watching those scary movies.

The United Arab Emirates falcon (yes, a falcon, I should research before posting!) stamp comes as a booklet of 7 different stamps. Nice booklet cover also.

The 2010 UAE Jafza 25 year anniversary stamp comes in two version and the hexagon-containing symbol is also on the souvenir (miniature) sheet.

Good to know to add to my want list. Plus there may be a FDC also. Ah the joy of the hunt.
