So, I just getting through cleaning up my 1993 stamps. Scott 2724-2730, Legends of Rock and Roll is causing me some mounting grief.

It's a 7 Se-Tenant set on a miniature sheet. The problem is, it not a "clean" Se-Tenant, as can be seen here:

5 stamps across the top, starting with Elvis, followed by 2 unique stamps in the next row and then the stamps start over again, with third position being Elvis again.

I'd like to know how others are collecting these. Are you grabbing just the first 7, first 2 rows, or the whole sheet?

I completely understand that it's MY album and I can collect them any way I want, but I haven't decided how I want to collect them yet, and am just feeling out what others have done.

There are seven different stamps. Canonically, they're collected as vertical strips of 7, at least as far as Scott is concerned.

Typically, Scott will assign their numbering in an order obtainable on the sheet. In my experience, "Scott order" strips of modern issues command around a 40% premium. But the Scott order is Presley-Haley-McPhatter-Valens-Redding-Holly-Washington, which does not appear as a strip on the sheet. That appears to be because Scott indexed the stamps horizontally.

My guess -- just from experience -- is that most people would collect the column one position, both because it's the first column and because it's anchored by Presley. But my regular dealer for modern U.S. issues does not differentiate, and sells "strip of 7" for $9.75. But if you asked them for the strip with Elvis at the top? They might well be sold out.

HTH.

Well, they were also issued as a booklet pane, with 7 stamps in a horizontal strip. That may be the order they have listed.

I didn't even think to look at the sheet vertically. I don't have a Scott catalog, and wasn't planning to buy one until an online version became available.

Short of saving the entire sheet, I don't see any reasonable option except the first column starting with The King. It bothers me a tad that it's not in the Scott order but not enough to pick any other equally bothersome answer. Yup, 1st col vert. Now ... do you keep the left side selvage?

Since this thread got dragged out of the muck by some spam, I have a related question. The booklet pane version of this stamp is a strip of 8, with Elvis on the top and bottom. How did others mount the strip? Did you leave Elvis on the end or did you Elvis and only mount he 7 Scott lists?

I mounted the whole strip of 8.

apastuszak if you would like to separate them, I would take a strip of seven. Maybe we can trade?

Andy ... how to keep the booklet strip is a tad more confusing. If you treat it like a coil strip with multiple stamps in the coil then I think you keep a strip beginning and ending with the same stamp ... therefore all 8. In this case, it seems almost silly to,remove one stamp ... so again, all 8.

mcgeesorg ... math major? Long time since I've heard someone use the term "Canonically"

I don't have an extra strip of the booklet pane. I might have an extra strip of the sheet. I'll get back to you.
