I haven't been as active on SCF this past year, so this may have already been asked/addressed... I've noticed a dramatic increase in the number of auction/sales threads this year. Basically, I think that is a good thing. I use the "Recent Forum Topics" list on the left, but I now find the majority of topics are auction/sales threads. Unfortunately, I cannot quickly see which ones are non-sales topics, nor do I want to filter out the sales threads. I cannot tell if the thread topic is for a sale or a question on that particular stamp/area. I end up wasting what little time I can spend on SCF opening threads that turn out to be sales items. 1. Is there a quick way to see which are sales threads? Or... 2. Might we consider limiting how many active sales threads each member can have at one time? Or... 3. Require sales threads to start off with the title "For Sale"? I'm sorry if opening up this discussion ruffles any feathers. Again, I think the sales threads are good for this site. I've bought and sold a few items in the past. However, I visit this Forum because in the past, it was not primarily a sales site. It's gotten a lot harder to navigate/surf this site with so many sales threads covering up the non-sales threads. Again, my apologies in advance if I've ruffled any feathers... k

I've switched exclusively to the "Active" function for this reason. That way, each topic is pre-categorized. The lists get a little long if some time passes between visits, though.
I was away for a couple months, and I wonder what I missed... |

Ahh, I see! You are also right, the list can get pretty long since it is not in chronological order.
I also didn't realize that using the "Last 100 Active Topics" also filters out certain forums. Thank you for the suggestion.
But still, then I miss out on sales threads, unless I sit there looking through two different lists... can't have it both ways, I guess. |

I start [almost] all my Auctions or sales with 'AUCTION' or 'SALE'.[Those that didn't were mistakes ]. I think it would be far better if we can all do this, it will be much easier for everyone. Some auctions do have the title. But what do others think ? Londonbus1 |

I think it would make sense to start thread titles with SALE, AUCTION or TRADE as appropriate, or at least have the word prominently in the title. |

I like having the active topics list on the left side of the main page. I go down through the list opening in new tab all the topics which seem of interest. It would be helpful if the word Auction or Sale could appear at the beginning of the title of each posting.
A question I have always had is why the list on the left is not identical on each of the opened posts. |

My observation, SCF is running smoothly, the current rate of Auction posts by member works fine.
The fact that some have multiple Auctions allows members wider buying opportunity with items possibly not seen before. |

How about using the "Last 100 active" link at the top? no sales or auction threads are included in these.

Quote: How about using the "Last 100 active" link at the top? Yes, I mentioned that in my 2nd post. The only problem is that then I miss out on the sales threads completely, unless I spend time looking through 2 separate lists. I realize I can't have everything. It's just my time on SCF has been very limited. I'm just hoping that quickly being able to differentiate between sales threads, and help request or interesting info, could be easier. I realize that there are many who help out on question threads, so I'm not concerned about that. On the other hand, I don't want to miss out interesting info threads because I spent time opening up sales threads. JMHO. Thanks for hearing me out... k |

Ah, I see, sorry about that. I agree, SCF has lost some fluidity with the separation of the auction / sales , I hadn't realised they were all joined in the "recent forum topics" A lot of my problems lie with IE I think, one advantage I really miss is opening a thread in a new window, I used to be able to do that which meant I clicked on the delete button to get back to the route forum, now I lose SCF and have to re log on.

Rod, try holding down the control key when you click. This problem will be alleviated after the new Auction/PIN section has been running for a few months (meaning tested thoroughly) on the coin site. Once up and running here, then the auction and sell forums go away and most of these issues will go away. The recently listed auctions will be listed in the side bar, on the main page, and the active topics (active.asp) page. Have a look over on the coin forum and you'll see. |

Very nice! Meanwhile, those of you who have started putting words like "AUCTION" or other sales keywords at the beginning of your thread titles, I do thank you very much! It doesn't mean I won't look at your thread, as there are always a few items I am interested in -- but at least I will know it is a sales item rather than an info or help request thread. Thank you! k |

Rod:
My mouse has a wheel between the two buttons -- clicking the wheel opens the link in a new Tab.
It's a little cumbersome, but you should be able to Right-Click on the link, then click "Open in New Tab" --- if that doesn't work then your browser is broken or you have some security setting checked that is causing the problem.
