Maybe this website link is well known to some on SCF, but I just happened to come across it in my internet research and thought I'd share the link. I find it to be an absolutely fascinating look at period examples of great advertising covers that show beautiful colors, printing and engraving techniques of its day that has seemingly become a lost art:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. (The exact & entire wording of the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution)
What an amazing collection of covers. Did anyone check the other links on the page? Try the photographs. Fascinating.
I loved the cover advertising the stamp affixing device. The position of the stamp on the cover where the tongue is and the slogan "No more Licking" Very effective.
