Does anyone have in formation on US Revenue stamps known as "persian Rugs" or "Persian Carpets"? Numbers sold, exsisting, collecting specialists or forums?
Am I in the right forum for this type of question?
Regards,

Welcome to the stamp community, Keith9! Not very many persian rugs exist. Just a few come up for auction each year. I would guess a few hundred exist. You might want to order this reference book: The Legendary Persian Rug and the Other High Value Civil War Revenue stamps by Thomas C. Kingsley, hardbound, 8 3/4" x 11 1/2", 152 pages, published in 1993. Over 130 illustrations with auction sale data covering the Persian Run (Scott # R133) plus data on R132, RB8-10 plus various proofs. Also includes the orders by firms, 1874-1884 for RB8-10. Very interesting and easy to understand descriptions and comments on these issues. Price $34.95 for sale by Michael Aldrich |

Once again, US BOB issues are the topic. They are beautiful and make a grand looking collection - if you've got the cash to support that kind of habit. BTW, to the family Keith! |

I wish my bob's where that nice looking but they only consist of postage due and a few special deliveries. Maybe someday I will get a nice addition like these. |

Thanks to all of you for your gracious replies.
After years of collecting Soviet and German WWII military combat awards, where I really honed my skills in establishing authenticies and in dealing only with world-class dealers concerning very high-end specimens, I have returned to the world of philately, where I first started collecting as a boy. I learned a fair amount about forums and the use of forums in the areas mentioned above (Soviet Military Awards Forum and the German Combat Awards Forum) where experts and enthusiasts exchange information and share knowledge in detecting forgeries and reproductions.
I am happy to have found this forum and hope it is as rewarding as the other forums that I mentioned.
I have finished my US Commemorative collection (only pre-19302's) and the airmails and regular postal issues as far as I had an interest. Outside of the commemoratives, I only collect mint issues of specific fascination or interest to me. At the moment, my focus is on collecting 1909-1930 red 2-cent commemorative full sheets, and on completing my collection of "BOB" stamps of specific beauty and engraving, such as the Parcel Posts (completed), ducks (completed), the newspaper (PR) and periodicals (real beauties and under-appreciated), and the documentary-revenue issues of 1860's to 1870's - there are some real beauties for bi-colored and engraved issues there as well...
I am a "colorist" and multiple colors and engraving detail intereest me very much, as well as the historical aspects of the Doc-Revenues, where individuals ooften hand-cancelled stamps with their names, initials, and dates.
I do attend a number of auctions on-line through the Stamp Auction Network for specific examples of specimens (from Siegel, Heritage, Spinks-Shreve, SHP, and others), as the material tends to have PSE or similar certification for quality and authenticity.
What I have learned from the military awrds and philatelic communities is that quality & authenticity counts; so, in the stamp world I try to obtain graded pieces when looking for specimens. And although I collect out of interest, if future circumstances require it, I can always find a market for my high-end pieces. Collect for interest, but collect quality is my creed. I will pass up several less-expensive items that I need in order to purchase just one quality piece.
I suppose I should post this introduction in another part of the forum and will endeavor to do so.
Thank you all again for the kind reception.

I am sure we will never see one of those in our for sale listing ! That book on the persian rug is on ebay less than Amazon if anyone wanted a copy. One of my former tenants in Flagstaff worked at the railroad....If Ihad only known I could have asked for that instead of a ranger hat. Welcome Keith! Jim |
