After being away from philately for 15 years I'm revisiting my collection and could use a refresher in identification. Here's a random sampling from a dusty pile. Thanks in advance.
Thomas, could it be you don't recognize any of these stamps because you are not on any of them? Sorry, couldn't resist. Welcome to the forum. Larger individual scans might make identification of some easier, especially that Ben Franklin.
Ha ha! Thanks for the welcome. I'll attempt to upload higher res images like the one included. What I need to rediscover is distinguishing Type I from Type II and the like.
Hi, TJ, welcome to SCF. Looks like a good bunch to start off with.
I like that 1c Franklin. I think it is from plate 4, relief A (the top row) with strong top ornaments and very weak bottom ornaments. All of the top row of plate 4 are type II, meaning has top and bottom lines (however weak) and complete side ornaments. The low rez scan precludes plating. Type II perfed is a Scott #20.
The green 10c Washington is a type V perfed, #35. Does not have three complete pearls on the lower left and right shells. Top line not recut.
The 2c Jackson is a #73, assuming there's no grill, which it doesn't look like there is.
The 30c Hamilton could be 143, 154, 165, or 190 depending on whether there's a grill, secret marks, and paper type. Scan is too small and low rez to tell.
looks like you are getting some great advice already Thomas so I will simply say welcome to the forum and I hope you get as much pleasure out of the company as I do. - jeff
