Quote: now I have to figure out what to do with it why, keep it, of course... There are about exactly enough of them to make one pleasing page in the middle of your early Turkey. Just stuff it in there... |

Liannos's Post 1865, Handbook of the Private Local Posts, by Hurt & Williams reprinted in Billig's Vol. 6, Catalog #3, rose. In this design #1 is a 5 para, blue (shades); #2 is a 20 para, green (also blue-green & yellow-brown); The #3 also known colors pinky lilac & brownish lilac. All known imperforate not common. The post created & used 3 other stamp designs 1865-66 a total of 16 issues. |

Here are some more local stamps from Turkey from the same period. The one on the left is also from the Liannos post in Istanbul and those on the right are from a post in Constanta in Romania (but still part of Turkey back in 1867). I doubt if any of these are genuine but I don't know either way. The Constanta stamps were only issued in black on green with other colours printed as proofs. It says in Michel that there are lots of forgeries of these two issues. |

nigelc, The 1st stamp you have shown is a Liannos Post Cat "14.
The other are from the post of The Danube & Black Sea Railway & the Kustendje Harbor Co 1st issue 1865. Only 1 stamp & it was blue-green with various other shades, |

Interesting. Michel only lists this one issue for the Constanta company and gives a date of 1867.
"Kustendje & Czernawoda" would now be represented as "Constanta & Cernavoda" (plus a couple of Romanian accents that I can't post here).

Thanks for pointing out the Constanta stamp...never noticed them before. I hope tracking one down won't prove too outrageous. |

Nigelc, I'm using the Handbook of Private Local Posts, reprinted in Billigs, Vol.6. So there could be some corrections or updates, The acronym "D.B.S.R." is Danube & Black Sea Railway. |
