I found these stamps in a packet of 2500 worldwide that I recently bought. I haven't been able to find them in Scott. I found this excerpt from an article from the Linn's website.

Stamps inscribed "Sahara Occ. R.A.S.D." (Republica Arabe Saharaui Democratic) have been issued for Western Sahara.

Spain withdrew from its colony Western Sahara in 1975. By secret agreement, Morocco was to annex the northern two-thirds of the country, while Mauritania was to annex the southern third. As the Spanish withdrew, most of the native population, called Saharawis, fled into refugee camps in Algeria.

The Polisario Front operates as a government in exile in the Saharawi refugee camps. Western Sahara's local stamps are produced primarily for sale to stamp collectors.

Is this the same country/exile government?

Hello Ajnabii,

Yes, these stamps are supposed to represent the Western Sahara. I've never seen any evidence for who produced them and whether any of them have ever been put in sale in the refugee camps in Algeria.

Here's an earlier dicsussion about them:

Hi Nigel!
So, do I put them in the cinderellas section of my album or local issue? These stamps are pretty interesting.

Hi Ajnabii,

I arrange my stamps geographically so I keep mine in pages after Rio de Oro, La Aguera, Cape Juby and Spanish Sahara/Western Sahara but it's completely up to you.

Good idea. I think I'm going to keep mine after Spanish Sahara. Do these stamps appear in any catalogs at all?
