Wow, interesting, I don't think I've ever seen anything written in Esperanto. I had no idea it had been around so long. Somehow I thought it was a much more modern language. Fascinating....
Do we have any Esperanto speakers on Scf? |

Quote: Esperanto was created in the late 1870s and early 1880s by Dr. Ludwig Lazarus Zamenhof, an ophthalmologist of mixed cultural heritage from Bialystok, then part of the Russian Empire. According to Zamenhof, he created this language to foster harmony between people from different countries. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanto@stampgal: It was quite the product of modernity, having occurred in the late modern age (a time period that began with the French Revolution). |

I tried typing the text of the postcard into a Esperanto to English translation program. It's rough (as I didn't use any of the special characters in the language) but it reads something like this: Quote: My very dear MALNOVOAMIKO during long time I not furthermore audis-as from you. Cu you live? Where? What you do? Cu you want to say to me those asks? I indeed hope that yes. I now am preskau 81 annual-person, and fades somewhat quickly; I now am preskau okdekunujarulo, and fades somewhat quickly; but gis now I functions, but not too much a lot. What from years you have? Cu you are a husband, and has a family? I hope "Jes". My wife died March 7a, 1928, preskau nau years antaue. I had to translogi from Topeka, Kan. gis thou that city during Nov. 1936, together with my ill daughter Bessie. We will remain ci-tie during the winter; maybe a lot longer. God only knows. Kindly, JHFAZEL |

The spanish version of the postcard ...
Atentamente,
J.H. Fazel
