Just thought I would do a little essay on the colors that US metered postage comes in. I know I do not have the full spectrum yet. Scans of metered postage in other colors are most welcome.

Light Brown

Medium Brown

Green

Sea Green

Blue Green

Blue

Lavender

Violet

Medium Purple

Dark Purple

I'd be first in line to visit that anesthesia exhibit! lol
Those are actually beautifully done! Not like today's crappy digitized squares, dots & dashes...

@warrehouse - That's what a good job of cropping can do.

Have you checked your first scan against the Postage Meter Indicia Catalog? If I read it correctly, according to that catalog Meter No. 1368 has a LKU of 10/17/1932, which obviously is in error since your example shows 07/05/1933. If you report it, they will list it in their next catalog update:

Go for it!

By the way, to backup to the last scan in your initial post, there is a Chicago bulk rate meter for 2-7/8ths cents. I don't ever recall seeing that denomination in a meter before (and it couldn't be accomplished with stamps that don't use that sort of a fraction), so I wonder what could have prompted that postage rate at the time. Any ideas?

Nice one and unusual with a 7 PM Christmas Day date stamp. I'm not sure if your example is just a cut square or the entire cover, but Meter No. 6003 for that date period and denomination of 5-cents Air Mail was assigned to Laboratory Products Company of Cleveland, Ohio and was in use from 09/26/1929 to 01/16/1930.

By the way, Laboratory Products Company was, in its day, a baby formula company started by William E. Telling.

Quote:
...Telling's Laboratory Products Company became the Sealtest Laboratories, and then the S.M.A. Corporation. American Home Products Corporation (now Wyeth) purchased S.M.A in 1938. The innovative Formulac baby food brand name appears to have survived through 1948, but later was used on dog and cat formula. The Formulac brand name is now owned by a small feed manufacturer in Paris, Illinois.

An interesting biographical story of Mr. Telling and his ventures can be found at this link:

Just think all of the above information and history was gleaned from just one meter imprint ... and you thought collecting meters was boring!

Thanks for the information. My 5 cents air mail envelope is a mint copy that I purchased in a lot. It's a beauty!

This is a more recent acquisition and the only example I have seen of a two-tone meter impression.

A closeup

The logo, which I found hilarious, since my doctor tells me butter is not good for my health.
