Lovely acquisition. A glaringly empty area of my early US collection.

Some great copies, no doubt about that. but, I really don't like the bank notes. IMO, they are some of the UGLIest stamps produced for the U.S. I also, have mostly blank spaces in this area. I just can't seem to bring myself to spend $$ on something I don't like, even if my collection needs them.

Actually the whole design process of the banknotes was a long and interesting process. It is also well documented through a series of letters between the Third Assistant Postmaster General Terrell and Macdonough, operations manager at National Bank Note. These letters are the main documentation for the differences in the early essays and also for explaining the differences in the color of the 24 cent stamp. Definitely must reading for any student of the banknotes.

Lovely stamps SV. I have never been able to understand the difficulty in getting a decent 24 center. The others seem to be available in nice condition. But the 24 is hard. My copy of it leaves something to be desired, but I have resigned myself to what it is.

Your 24 cent is a really nice example of that stamp.

Very nice. Many of the early stamp images were simple, but elegant.
