Also a forgery, In the original none of the letters in the upper or lower banners touch each other. Note the "HW" of Braunschweig. But still attractive!

I remember reading somewhere, sometime ago, that with the exception of Bavaria that 80-90% of the German States are Forgeries. This number includes "Postal Forgeries." Which were rampant in the early days of the postal system.

For those who will ask; "What is a Postal Forgery vs a Forgery?" A Forgery is most often to the detriment of collectors. Postal Forgeries are to defraud the Postal Agency of revenue.

Rod: thanks for posting the Braunschweig (Brunswick) stamp even if it is a forgery. I spent an enjoyable hour researching the city. Given the date of 1852 am I right in assuming that this is supposed to represent Brunswick Scott#3 ("the leaping saxon horse") that my old catalogue describes as vermilion in colour?

Thanks everyone

Yes, Cynical, Vermilion (note to self...1 "L" rod in vermilion)

Cannot comment on the vignette, no info offered in Gibbons
I'll have to google, I was of the understanding
the Brunswick Star was an icon.
