I remember reading somewhere, sometime ago, that with the exception of Bavaria that 80-90% of the German States are Forgeries. This number includes "Postal Forgeries." Which were rampant in the early days of the postal system.
For those who will ask; "What is a Postal Forgery vs a Forgery?" A Forgery is most often to the detriment of collectors. Postal Forgeries are to defraud the Postal Agency of revenue.
Rod: thanks for posting the Braunschweig (Brunswick) stamp even if it is a forgery. I spent an enjoyable hour researching the city. Given the date of 1852 am I right in assuming that this is supposed to represent Brunswick Scott#3 ("the leaping saxon horse") that my old catalogue describes as vermilion in colour?
