On a previous thread SCF member "chasa" displayed a precanceled U.S. postage due stamp and got me to thinking. I rarely looked at the cancellation of a stamp. Until just recently, I never researched them. I have always been concerned about the quality of the stamp and the quality of the cancellation. Where it was postmarked was of not much interest.

I believe I missed the boat on this. Just goes to show that there are so many aspects to this hobby.

Can anyone recommend a good reference book or site on cancellations and precancels? I think I seen it posted here before...

There are many websites out there with loads of information. For precancels, you can start here:

http://www.precancels.com/

For postmarks on regular US stamps, this is a good link:

http://www.postmarks.org/

Others SCF members will chime in with other references, I'm sure.
