stamp collecting becomes more and more interesting. i never really heard of a place called north pole Alaska before. i found info about the area on Wikipedia. the aurora borealis seems like a nice stamp to have the postmark.

Nice ones. North Pole, AK is one of those towns where you can send for special postmarks every Christmas Season to be applied to mail, including ordering "Letters from Santa". There's a whole array of different postmarks that have been used from year to year. In case you were wondering, here's a picture of the North Pole, AK post office: |

Alas... despite the name, the city is about 1,700 miles (2,700 km) south of Earth's geographic North Pole. |

I just gotta reply to this thread.
In 1975 I was working in Fairbanks, AK during the pipeline construction. I spent the entire winter of '75 in Fairbanks and its as cold as people say it is. Temps of -50F and colder was not at all uncommon.
North Pole, AK is where my wife and I got married! At the Santa Clause house, by Mrs. Clause. My children received handwritten letters from Santa every year, for many years and now, my grand children get theirs. Both my daughters own 1 square inch of North Pole, AK.

It's a bit early to have this information announced. (Last year it was announced mid-November.) |
