Thanks a lot tonymcg for taking the time to help me out. How this got into a little kid's album ca 1900 is something for me to ponder, - he was 100% Scot, and not from a traveling family either.

It would be fascinating to know where it came from. At the time the receipt was written, Japan was basically closed to the outside world - all except for a small Dutch trading post on Deshima Island off Nagasaki. Presumably, it made its way out of Japan at some later stage, but how and why ...
