First, if this is in the wrong section, please tell me, okay? I'm still learning my way around and my A.D.D. (no joke) is rearing it's ugly head today so I'm having trouble staying on task.

Here's the first one I thought was cool,

I've never seen a stamp this small. I have no information on it yet, I'm not in the "researching" stage of the game yet.

Here's the other one I thought was interesting,

This is the only stamp I've seen so far from the Vatican. I have tons of Italian stamps, (and an unusually large collection of stamps from Hungary of all places) but this is the only stamp I've seen from the Vatican!

I dunno... I think they're really cool, and that's what matters to me, I have to be the one who's happy with my collection, right?

Lynn

The small Notopfer is known as the 'blue flea' and was a postal tax stamp post WWII.
A very complex area of study if you want to get into it with many various shades, perf and watermarks variations.
Search here for 'notopfer' or blue 'flea' for previous threads.

Indeed...
Vatican is issuing stamps since 1929, the city-state entered in the UPU (Universal Postal Union) in 01.06.1929 (Italy is member since 01.07.1875). In a 2004 European stamp catalogue (Michel) the last stamps number is 1513.

The old Vatican issues have a uniformly high production value, and a lot of it is pretty easy to obtain. There are many attractive sets to be had for very little money.

I can't speak much to the newer issues, as I don't really pay attention to them.

Hello Lynn

Welcome to the forum.

The "Blue "Fleas" or "Notopfer" stamps are quite common overall but there are varieties to be found with them and they are a study on theor own. You might want to go to the following website http://www.gps.nu/# and read the exhibit on those. Interesting to say the least.

Hope this helps?
