Interesting question, shareminator. I've never thought about it before.

I'm pretty sure the answer is NO, but let's wait for a second opinion.

If Scott's uses the same format that they have used in the past, the answer is NO. They are all reduced.

This was in Linn's a while back, discussing the Scott catalogue:

Quote:
Illustrations normally are 75 percent of the original size of the stamp. Virtually all souvenir sheet illustrations are reduced more. Overprints and surcharges are shown at 100 percent of their original size unless otherwise noted.

thank you for answers/opinions, I ask because I also found topic quoted by Cjd (btw: http://www.linns.com/scott/news/nn_howto.aspx) but stamps which I checked in Scott are in same size or stamps are 95 percent of the original size of the stamp.

I heard one time, but never confirmed, that for US stamps, you are not to print as same size as the original and that for an image of a mint stamp, you place a diagonal line in one corner. Not sure if this is true or if enforced. Maybe I am just forwarding a rumor ....

I would think that if they reproduced the stamps at actual size, Scott's would run out of room pretty quickly. And the catalogues would cost a lot more.

It is illegal in Canada to publish stamps at their original size also, they need to have that diagonal line crossing over the denomination.

If stamps were printed in original size in colour anywhere people could just cut them out and use them for postage. At least some would try.

Color copies of US Stamps may not be reproduced at actual size unless they are defaced. The same goes for US Currency.

Quote:
Printed illustrations of United States and foreign stamps are permissible for any non-fraudulent purpose. Black and white illustrations of uncanceled United States and foreign postage stamps are permissible in any size. Color illustrations of uncanceled United States and foreign postage stamps must be less than three-fourths or more than one and one-half times the size of the genuine stamp. Canceled United States and foreign postage stamps may be of any size whether the illustrations are in color or black and white.

If anyone's interested in looking at this example as an exercise in this rule, check out the USPS's USA Philatelic. Included are images of all stamps, but they all do not necessarily have a diagonal line through either the denomination or the word "Forever".

Upon closer inspection, however, you will note that the color illustrations of stamps that DO NOT HAVE A DIAGONAL LINE through the denomination or the word "Forever" are enlarged more than one and a half times (i.e. 180% enlargement as in 64c Wedding Cake or 44c Angel with Lute) or reduced to less than three-fourths (i.e. 40% for Garden of Love Forever stamps). For those stamps that fall outside of those parameters, a diagonal line is included so as to "deface" the image.

Never really noticed it until reading this thread that it fully explains the inconsistencies as to why some stamps are illustrated with the diagonal line and others are not.
